Mudumalai National Park / Tiger Reserve is located in Tamilnadu which is about 240 Km from Bangalore, about 90 Km from Mysore, about 68 Km from Udhagamandalam (Ooty) and about 124 Km from Calicut by road.

It has more than 260 species of birds and wild animals. The amazing landscapes gives the best and cherrished memories that you can carry forever. Lets get into detail now.

How to reach Mudumalai National Park

  • 240 Km from Bangalore

  • midway between the two cities Ooty and Mysore
  • Nearest town if any emergency like medical, fuel or anything Masinagudi (7 Km), Gudalur (18 Km), Gundalpet (32km)

Elephant Conservation Center

28 elephants including 2 calves. Elephant Conservation Centre is located on the bank of the river Moyar, opposite to the Reception center. visit www.mudumalaitigerreserve.com for booking and also the reception center at Theppakadu

The feeding time is from 8:30 am to 9:00 am and 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm in the evening.

Jungle Safari in Mudumalai National Park

  • 60-minute ride through the tourism zone
  • Tiger Reserve in gypsy run by the Tiger Reserve management
  • Private vehicles are not allowed.
  • The First Safari gypsy timing is at 06:30 AM
  • The last Safari gypsy will leave at 05:00 PM
  • Safari Charge Per Vehicle: 4200 INR

Flora and Fauna

Tiger, Elephant, Panther, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Mouse Deer (Chevrotain), Indian Gaur, Common Langur, Wild Dog, Mangoose, Jungle Cat, Hyena and others.

Here more than 260 species of birds available. Including rare birds like Frog mouths, Malabar grey hornbill, Malabar pied hornbill, Malabar laughing thrush and a variety of woodpeckers.

Very Deep Forest – 47.05 km2, Moderately Deep Forest – 214.98 km2, Open Area – 56.16 km2

Do’s and Don’ts

  • Abide by Tiger reserve rules
  • Entry into the Tiger Reserve with permission during official announce hours only
  • Obtain entrance permission from Reception Range Office
  • Always prefer forest department’s vehicle safari
  • wear clothes of colours like khaki, olive green, and some other dull colours
  • Maintain silence while in safari
  • Follow the instructions by the drivers during Safari’s
  • This is not zoo, so don’t expect to see wildlife everywhere.
  • Don’t get disappointed by not seeing the tiger or any other animal.
  • Don’t come weapons/explosives/crackers
  • Do not carry any inflammable item
  • Do not carry any musical item
  • Alcoholic drinks and Smoking inside is strictly prohibited
  • Eating during safari is strictly not allowed
  • Do not tease any animal or bird.
  • Don’t get down from the vehicle. This is very dangerous.
  • Plastic things like cups, plates, and pet bottles are banned in the Reserve.
  • Don’t use any spot lights, blowing of horn etc.
